Roggenbier is a beer style that dates back to medieval times. Brewed with malted rye, Forefathers has a bread-like malt flavor. A touch of roasted barley makes it brown in color. It’s fermented with weissen yeast more commonly used in wheat beers, contributing a subtle banana aroma to the beer.
This Double IPA features bold hop profile balanced out with smooth caramel malt sweetness. Finished with Nugget hops and Dry-hopped with Simcoe and Columbus, the aroma is earthy and resinous with subtle citrus notes.

We brewed Mimi’s Tabernacle with pure maple syrup, chocolate and oats. Then we infused it with locally roasted coffee beans and aged the finished beer in a Kentucky bourbon barrel. The end result is a rich barrel-aged Breakfast Stout with a smooth bourbon finish. Mimi would love that this bold, expressive beer is named in her memory.
Cheers to Mimi!
Join the East Washington Street Partnership here at the brewery on Friday, March 7th to help restore the historic obelisk that stands right next door. We’ve brewed Forefathers Rye, a German-style Roggenbier (Rye Ale), for this event. Funds raised will go to restore and rededicate the Michigan Street Obelisk.
